Everyday Care for Common Conditions

Diabetic Foot Ulcer / Type 2 Diabetes

  • Keep the feet clean at all times.
  • Do not keep the legs hanging down for long; keep the affected foot elevated.
  • Avoid excessive walking.
  • Take diabetes medications regularly as prescribed.
  • Eat plenty of vegetables, greens and fibre-rich foods.

  • கால்களை சுத்தமாக வைத்துக் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.
  • கால்களை நீண்ட நேரம் தொங்கவிட்ட நிலையில் வைக்கக்கூடாது; தூக்கி வைத்த நிலையில் வைத்துக் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.
  • அதிகம் நடக்கக் கூடாது.
  • சுகர் மாத்திரைகளை மருத்துவரின் பரிந்துரையின்படி முறையாக எடுத்துக் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.
  • அதிகமாக காய்கறிகள், கீரைகள் மற்றும் பழங்களை எடுத்துக் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)

  • Strongly reduce salt, pickles, dried fish, papad, chips and sweets.
  • Avoid foods high in sugar, ghee and oil; avoid deep-fried snacks.
  • Drink the recommended amount of water (about 1–1.5 L/day, including milk, coffee, juice).
  • Follow a kidney-friendly diet: low-salt, low-protein, restricted potassium and phosphorus.
  • Stop smoking, avoid alcohol; control blood pressure and blood sugar.
  • Exercise regularly, sleep well (~6 hours) and review kidney function every 3–4 months.

  • உப்பு, ஊறுகாய், கருவாடு, அப்பளம், சிப்ஸ், இனிப்பு வகைகளை முழுவதுமாக தவிர்த்தல் வேண்டும்.
  • சர்க்கரை, இனிப்பு வகைகளை தவிர்த்தல் வேண்டும்.
  • நாள் ஒன்றுக்கு ஒன்றரை லிட்டர் தண்ணீர் குடிக்க வேண்டும் (பால், காபி, கஞ்சி, ஜூஸ் உட்பட).
  • எண்ணெயில் பொரித்த உணவு, இனிப்பு வகைகள் மற்றும் நொறுக்குத் தீனிகளை தவிர்த்தல் வேண்டும்.
  • சிறுநீரக மருத்துவரின் ஆலோசனைப்படி சிகிச்சைகளை மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டும்.
  • எளிமையான உடற்பயிற்சி அவசியம்; நன்றாக உறங்க வேண்டும் (நாள் ஒன்றுக்கு 6 மணி நேரம்).

General Guidance for All Surgeries

  • There is no need to fear for surgeries — Dr. S. Sasiraj (MBBS, MS, DNB) has performed more than 30,000 surgeries.
  • The anaesthesiologist will advise which routine medicines (BP, sugar, etc.) to take or stop before surgery.
  • Heart medicines such as Aspirin and Clopilet must be stopped one week before surgery.
  • Thyroid medicines (Eltroxin / Thyronorm) — take with a little water at 5:00 AM on the day of surgery.
  • Bathe thoroughly with soap before coming in for surgery.
  • Post-op diet: avoid spicy/oily foods, butter, ghee, dalda and sweets; drink enough water; eat plenty of vegetables and fruits.
